Jo Anne Crouch

Research Molecular Biologist

The Crouch laboratory focuses on investigations of emergent and quarantine-significant fungal pathogens of grasses and ornamental crops.

Specific projects include:

  • The newly emergent boxwood blight pathogen Calonectria pseudonaviculata: Diagnostics, host and pathogen diversity, boxwood microbiome, and host/pathogen interaction.
  • Destructive new downy mildew pathogens on impatiens, black eyed susan, cucumber and other crops: Using fungal natural history collections and modern populations to uncover the origins of disease outbreaks.
  • Turfgrass pathogens causing dollar spot, anthracnose and rust diseases, and anthracnose pathogens of bioenergy grasses: Diagnostics, diversity and systematics.
  • Comparative genomics & transcriptomics of Colletotrichum species that infect cereals and grasses.
  • The lab is also exploring the concepts and practices associated with DNA analyses of fungal natural history collections.
