Infection by the protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, is widely prevalent in warm-blooded animals including humans. Humans become infected by ingesting food or water contaminated with oocysts from infected cats, or ingesting uncooked meat from infected animals or from mother to the fetus.
